Social Networking and Teenagers

According to a new national survey of teenagers conducted by the Pew Internet & American Life Project, more than half (55%) of all of online American youths ages 12-17 use online social networking sites. They also say that social networking help them manage their pre-exsiting friendships in the survey. The interesting finding was that 91% of all social networking teens say they use the sites to stay in touch with friends they see frequently, while 82% use the sites to stay in touch with friends they rarely see in person.
This suggests that social networking is essential to maintain their friendships in their community they belong to, and not to feel "left out".

this necessity cause them to go on sites such as facebook often (more often than needed) and eventually become part of their everyday life.
