Selective Mass Media

Today, I want to bring up a thought that I've had in the past few days about how mass media is selectively put out there. I came across a petition last week through leadnow.ca that is petitioning for Canada's participation in the ban of asbestos production and export. I read today in the Tyee that Canadian government officials haven't yet stated their support of putting asbestos on the list of banned chemicals. Everyone knows it's dangerous. So why hasn't there been a big outbreak of mass media about this? Are some people potentially benefiting from the production and export of this very dangerous chemical?

Strangely enough, I came across this campaign by chance, unlike other mass media that I don't care about. I just wish sometimes that people didn't benefit so much from others.
