The Privatized Future is Now

Before we began talking about the future of education in class, I hadn't really given much thought to the possibility of education(schools) becoming privatized. But now I have been thinking about it. Why, when first mentioned, did I think it sounded far fetched? Is it because, in comparison to Canada's eternal point of comparison (the U.S.A.), Canadians still have health care? A bastion of (mostly not) privatized hope? I've been trying to think more about how I could see that unfolding, and what education might look like if it were to become privatized.
Today I read an article called "Students for Posties", which is about student groups in Montreal coming together in solidarity with the postal workers. In the article connections were drawn between the struggle for accessible, public education, the wage cuts currently faced by postal workers, and the federal government's proposed budget for 2011-12. If you have also been pondering a privatized future of education, I encourage you to read the article. As for myself, I'm getting to thinking it's not as far fetched as I first thought it to be.
