Hey, I think I just found a pretty cool and useful website.
The Media Awareness Network is a non-profit organization that claims to "focus its efforts on equipping adults with information and tools to help young people understand how the media works, how the media may affect their lifestyle choices and the extent to which they, as consumers and citizens, are being well informed." The website has web-based resources for parents and teachers who are teaching about media and digital literacy.
There is a lot of tutorials and articles on the website, but one section that stuck out for me is the "media issue" link which provides information and tools to discuss current media issues with kids such as media violence, online hate, and information privacy. I haven't had time to look through all the links so I don't know what the quality of the tutorials and tools are, but I think it may be worth looking into for teachers who want to discuss media with their students. It also provides information that would be interesting for anyone to think about.
The website also provides games. I played "Top Secret". It is designed for grade 6-8 and teaches about sharing information online. It was pretty cool! It reminded me a bit of the video game that was presented today. You have to make appropriate decisions to do well in the game.
Hope you guys find this useful!
