Oh my God.
I was riding in a car today with my friend as he went through the drive thru at Mickey D's. Since he was driving, I held on to his food until we got home. During this process I started reading the bag and was disgusted, shocked and intrigued all at once.
The bag read as follows:
"Mom's the word on food quality. Free access and free speech: that's what we gave five moms who wanted to know what Mcdonalds is all about. See what they had to say at www.mcdonaldsmoms.ca"
Firstly, SERIOUSLY? Everyone knows (well I'd like to think anyway) that McDonalds is everything but healthy and exactly what moms do NOT want their kids to eat. However, there are moms who don't feel so guilty about allowing their children to eat McDonalds on a regular basis. Is this due to a manipulative marketing technique like this one? Can a massive corporation like McDonalds really get people to think that their food is quality? Sadly, I guess the answer is yes.
Next, I went to the website listed on the bag. I didn't think it could possibly be true. Now, I don't know if this was a coincidence but the website doesn't exist. However, I ended up finding another website on google that was connected to the campaign. If you do go the site, you will notice there is a brief spiel about the program and then a link to click on for more information. This website also doesn't exist. This may be the result of some technological malfunction but, still.
I started poking around on the website and found a link to an article about a "field trip to Mc Cafe." The article basically goes on about this family who value their children eating veggies and then how McDonalds is an important part of their family life. Although I just skimmed the article, the focus seems to be about the quality of a toy in the happy meal. The Mom, Tina, is even quoted in huge letters saying "If it doesn't satisfy quality requirements, McDonalds will nix it..." This I found interesting, although I know nothing about the quality requirements of McDonalds toys, I can't help but wonder if McDonalds is able to lie about the quality of anything in their restaurant because they are directly quoting these moms. Is this just another way to bend the truth? Is this a sick way at targeting uneducated people into thinking that McDonalds is quality food just because five moms are documented saying so?
Oh, here is the link to the page I found - have a look around. Thoughts?

Thanks for posting this. I checked out the website and read through a good deal of it's content. As if the tidy testimonials from 'real moms from different backgrounds' isn't gross enough, check out the Q and A section to see just how much of a fool McDonald's thinks you are.
