Jon Stuart vs Fox News

Read the article and watch the video (there's an edited and unedited version) of Jon Stuart going against Fox News' Chris Wallace. Their arguing is quite entertaining, actually. Wallace invited Stuart on his show to discuss media bias. Stuart, from The Daily Show, is known for bashing Fox News on a regular basis and Wallace wanted to discuss why that is. Media bias is definitely an interesting area to look into. Stuart accuses Fox News of misinforming their viewers "consistently". Fox says they are trying to show the "other side" of the news (typically the Conservative side) when compared to other news networks. To me, it's unethical for a news network to choose a side, and then deny it. Fox's slogan is "Fair and Balanced". But as Stuart points out, they seem have agenda of their own. Jon Stuart does seem to attack Fox News a fair bit on his show, but he claims to be biased against corruption and injustice, not a Conservative ideology. And yet, Fox news is main target of his comedy. Hmm... a coincidence? I think not.

Another issue raised by Stuart is the sensationalizing of news, particularly by 24 hour news shows. I personally cannot stand watching CNN, MSNBC and FOX because of their constant dramatization of the news. It seems every 20 minutes, they have a "BREAKING NEWS" story. They also tend to jam certain news stories down our throats until we just can't take anymore, becoming desensitized to it.

I'm glad there are news sources like Democracy Now that show other sides of issues. And it's important to remember: there aren't just two sides; there are many.
