As the article would put it, "something a bit strange is happening with public opinion and climate change". Essentially, researcher polls have shown that the American public is LESS likely to believe in global warming than five years ago, and on the other side of the spectrum, American Scientists have increased their support of the notion that global warming is occurring.
Now, when I heard this, I was really confused. Why would public perspectives, who really heavily on the scientific community for information regarding climate change, not follow the same increasing trend as those in the scientific committee?
My only response was mass media. From the few opposing scientists, to right wing politicians, mass media in some form must be playing a huge role in the manipulation of the American public in regards to the issue of climate change. And to see such a dramatic change in belief is both astonishing and scary. To think how easy it is for corporations and politicians to alter the behaviours and beliefs of an entire population is frightening.
There is a podcast on the link as well that summarizes what they are talking about.
Any thoughts? Have you seen similar manipulations happening on such a large scale?
