Here's the counter ad that I created for a Cover Girl advertisement that was focusing on eye make-up. The original ad shows a picture of Rhianna with bright eyes that look almost a little too perfect. Her skin is free of any blemishes and has a "natural" glow. The ad is telling consumers that with this mascara, they too will be able to attain this type of beauty. But does the consumer realize that it's going to take a bit more than mascara? They are also going to have to employ a graphic artist to airbrush the heck out of their skin, their eyes, their lips, their nose, their neck, their hair, and any other part of their body that would be shown. Prior to the airbrushing, we must remember the make-up crew that came along with more than 20 beauty products in order to achieve the desired effect on the eyes. But no worries, we the consumers, will be able to get the same desired effect with only the mascara in the comfort of our own home.
Reality check. The images in magazines/movies/online have all been edited, airbrushed and altered. I felt that the image should have been recruiting for graphic artists and/or airbrush ing professionals.
