Obviously I have forgotten to post. I was writing it all down in a notebook because I was between computers so now there is a flood... well... of me!
Here is a great toy brand for all you shopping for children's items.

Great toys with an ethically sound history.
One company in particular is Plan Toys. They are a company in Thailand that are environmentally, ethically and morally feel good. Their toys are made out of renewable rubberwood with water-based paints. The employers actually pay fair wages and provide great working conditions. The women are offered child care through the company and supposedly there is a food program set up for the employees. I ordered a bunch of their things and feel great knowing the line behind the objects.
Wish there were more great companies such as this one. No plastic!

Global tragedy name dropping.
Listening to Mary's obvious horror at her friend's terrible circumstances (friend was stuck in India during the attacks) I couldn't help notice my own reaction to her story.
I paid attention immediately. It's strange how these awful events almost lend a sense of celebrity to the people who have been there to witness them. (Mary in no way did you convey this, just my own perception of my own experiences).
It seems people are starting to name drop these events, and it's not necessarily negative because it gets the information out there but it seems strange how it makes the world feel smaller and perhaps even more scandalous when you know someone who has experienced it, or you have yourself.
9/11 has turned into a Media frenzy. When that dates comes up everyone relives the horror through the replays of the day. And it becomes hollywood'ised.
I was in there when the Tsunamis hit Asia. We missed being hit by a matter of splitting hairs. When I talk about it (which is unconfortable and therefore rare) I feel as though the person I'm talking to is paying more attention, or more intrigued after they realise I was there.
I guess it's kind of like passing a wreck... can't help but look? I dunno.
It seems especially prevalent when there are Westerners involved.
I suppose I am bloggin about this to remind myself that behind the hype and craze there is an actual tragedy. Mary's friend lived through horror. And I can't help but want to hear about it. Sick. ?

Charlie Rose & education online.
If you listen to others' converstations in coffee shops or on the ferry or in the airport, you can't help but hear Charlie Rose's name being dropped. I have to say I think he beats good ole' babes' (Barbara). So I've been listening to what his guests have said about education (while I cook etc).
Here is one on the possible profits of online education. Interesting that it is looked at as another source of revenue.....
